His private practice weight loss and gallbladder surgery is based at The Cobham Clinic, Luton, Bedfordshire, Spire Harpenden and Spire Bushey, Watford, Hertfordshire. Mr Whitelaw joined The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, Luton, Bedfordshire in 2004 as a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Laparoscopic Gallbladder and Bariatric Surgery.
He was instrumental in setting up the surgical side of The Bariatric Centre that today is one of the largest Weight Loss Surgical Units in the UK. He operates weekly in the NHS and privately, undertaking Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Revision Surgery, Gastric Band and Gastric Balloon Insertion. Gallbladder Surgery includes Keyhole Gallbladder removal for gallstones, Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, ERCP for gallstone removal for gallstones lodged in the bile duct causing biliary colic and he specialises in gallstone and gallbladder disease.
